{49}: I already have one

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013."

On the Range
December 3 - 9, 2013

{On the Range} is my weekly series where I discuss what we're doing, reading, and eating. It's a little bit 52 project and other photo projects, and a little bit {Did you Read?} and {In the Ranger Kitchen}.

My week...
  • The photo above is blurry, but it perfectly captures the "Christmas Story" mood that was my experience of getting Charlie dressed to walk to town in the snow.
  • I'm late submitting this weekly post because I forgot about it. It's amazing that I've gotten to this point (49 weeks!) and only just forgotten one. I plan to finish the year out strong so I can count this project done. :)
  • I'm calling this post "I already have one" because it's my new short mantra that keeps me from spending too much this month. Even if it's not true, it's working. Boot tray? Already got one (we don't, but we have a mudroom). Earrings that go fabulously well with my new holiday party dress? Already have 'em (I don't, but I hope to borrow some).
Meals
  • Baking FAIL. I tried both fudge for the first time (recipe from the back of the marshmallow fluff container, read and decided on when browsing the local Italian deli/grocery while waiting for them to call my numbah so I could get us a sub) and oatmeal cranberry chocolate chunk cookies, which I remembered as good last year but turned out too crunchy this time. The fudge ended up tasting too marshmallowy and not chocolatey enough. If anyone has better recipes for these holiday items, I'd love to know!

Milestones
  • This is where I keep my kids' "isms" that aren't really milestones but who's keeping track, right? Okay. So the girls are in the bathtub, and Charlie is playing with a plastic turtle. She turns to mermaid Vivi and says "Hi! My name is Turd. Turd the Turtle. And I can float!," without a trace of irony. Vivi doesn't even crack a smile and says "Hi Turd!" and they continue playing this way for 15 minutes. I suppose what this scene tells me is that I need to provide them a more colorful vocabulary.

At times it seems that Monty Python's Holy Grail is a script of daily life . You have indeed found the Grail and yet you keep setting your sights higher . I'm inspired by that .
