We ventured on a road trip to DC over the long holiday weekend to see friends in their new digs. The 8-hour journey each way in the car turned out to be completely calm and pleasant (who knew?), and we gave each other high fives for having awesome kids, both agreeing we'd do it again in a heartbeat. We had such a blast on the trip.
Now that I've been away from the city for about a year and a half, I am in a better position to write about what I miss and don't miss about the DC metro area. Thanks for indulging me and reading my lists!
What I Miss
1. Old friends
|Note Charlie's muddy butt. The true evidence of a day well lived.|
2. FREE museums!
3. Being surrounded simultaneously by history and current events
|Note to self: Still need to have your camera body cleaned of artifacts, Dummy|
4. The urban vibe
5. Ethnic food
6. A variety of food
7. Did I mention restaurants yet?
What I Don't Miss
1. Outrageous prices (although we still have some of that)
2. Rude locals
4. Evidence everywhere of capitol overspending (exhibit A. Security officer unnecessarily operating an elevator while sitting on a chair watching YouTube; exhibit B. Install-new-grass-on-the-mall project currently happening, which will soon be trampled over by Inauguration spectators, rendering it useless; I could go on...)
