the arc of a Saturday

My day began as a typical Saturday does. I sprung out of bed, stripped the sheets, did some laundry, dressed the kids and made them breakfast, and got ready for the gym. At this point in my day, I am hyped up about my productivity, feeling a lot like this...

And then, the day goes on, there are errands to be arranged, and I tend to lose focus. Usually the lack of assiduity can be blamed on the tiny humans, though sometimes it's not their fault. And hey, at least they do cute things like this (Charlotte is singing and dancing to "The Ants Go Marching," and Vivi is being Vivi):

I feel the need to report that Nate gave me the "What's cute about this video?" look when I showed it to him. Sometimes you're just too close to the project. Step back, man. Anywho, today was one of those days that you think is going to be warm because it's sunny, so you get excited and make lofty plans like "Let's go to the park!," only to discover upon arrival that Boston is all "Psych! Suckers!" and lets the wind loose.

Why am I outside again?

Not sure what's happening here. Definitely my kid.

I'll say it again. It's too cold to be outside!

By the time I get home in the afternoon, I'm more like this...

Then it's dinner time and Get All Your Energy Out time. That looks about like so:

Dance fever is generally followed in hot pursuit by meltdowns, pajama wrestling, and eventually bed time. Now I'm glued to the couch, scanning the sea of toddler wreckage, calculating the post-mortem on my dearth of achievement. Nate is out giving his friend a proper send-off before she moves abroad, and I am hunkered down in my jammies with a cup of tea to read All The Things.

The one saving grace of this day is that we have a long weekend to make up for it. Happy birthday Mr. President and all that. We canned the Cape Cod idea (2-hour drive, doggone cold weather) but are thinking a jaunt into Beantown is in order. Ever the eternal optimist, I'm already back to daydreaming that being outside is okay as long as I can wear a cute scarf and hat. Psych!

Here's hoping your day was more productive than mine.

Editor's note: This post is part of Seasonal Celebration Sunday.

LOVED the dance party that your girls were having! I too wake up with the same cleaning aspirations, but am usually derailed quickly. And I don't even have any children to blame! Have a good rest of the long weekend!

I'm going to add dance party to my to-do list tomorrow and demote vacuuming. I was not productive today. I almost finished cleaning the kitchen and L. and I followed my mother-in-law around while she bought the most ridiculously cute outfit for L. I'll have to send you a picture. It's so Texas. Glad you're having a good weekend : )

A Texan outfit! This I must see. Productivity can wait, but a dance party most certainly cannot. Get boogieing!

Its consignment season in Atlanta so this morning was spent driving to Gwenette (I don't think I spelled that right), spending too much money on used goods, having an awesome lunch with some dear mommy friends and then getting stuck in traffic (ON SATURDAY!!!) Rherefore throwing my schedule happy baby into a tailspin. He's still awake. Its 10:30pm. Yeah.

I am really looking forward to the Seasonal Celebration Linky Party #5 going live tomorrow morning! Have a great weekend despite the cold!
